Case studies

A successful implementation in industrial drying.

Viandes Kamouraska: Hog slaughterhouse The company has reduced the cost of propane gas used to heat water for evisceration and showers, and the cost of electricity used for refrigeration in the plant. The measures implemented to achieve this are:

  • An electric water heater and a large tank are in operation to heat water during off-peak periods, i.e. nights and weekends. Electricity is cheaper than propane gas during off-peak periods.
  • Heat generated by the refrigeration unit condensers is recovered to preheat the fresh water supply.
  • All equipment in contact with hot water has been insulated.
  • Incandescent and fluorescent lighting has been replaced by LED lighting, which consumes less energy and heats up less, reducing the refrigeration load on the equipment.
  • Insulation of walls, floors and various equipment to eliminate the formation of frost and condensation.

  • Variable speed drives are used on the pumps.
  • The steam heating system and air evacuators were replaced with a propane make-up air unit.
Comax: Food for farm animals The company has reduced the cost of natural gas used to heat the plant. The measures implemented to achieve this are:

  • Effective insulation throughout the building, ventilation ducts and hot water and steam piping.
  • Heating the plant with high intensity infrared radiant units, replacing the unit heaters.
  • Use of economizers on the process boilers.
SCA Seigneurie: Food for farm animals
    • Use of efficient dicers to reduce electricity consumption and increase plant productivity.

Café Vittoria
    • During heating season, use a ventilation system to recover the hot air used to cool the compressors in order to heat the shipping dock and reduce natural gas consumption.
    • Effective insulation throughout the building, ventilation ducts and hot water piping.

Meunerie Bernard Breton: Food for farm animals
  • Efficient insulation on hot water and steam piping.
  • Use of economizers on oil-fired process boilers.

Boulangerie St-Méthode: High quality healthy breads The company has reduced the cost of propane gas used to heat the kilns and the plant, and the cost of electricity used for plant refrigeration. The measures implemented to achieve this are :

  • Incandescent and fluorescent lighting was replaced with LED lighting, which consumes less energy and heats up less, also reducing the refrigeration load on the equipment.
  • Use of motor optimizers to reduce power consumption and the risk of breakdowns.
